Fresh grated horseradish is nothing like shop-bought - it is potent to the point of tears. Sold in big ugly chunks, horseradish root is available seasonally in many markets. Home-prepared, it will not keep nearly as long as the bottled stuff and begins to lose strength almost immediately.
