This Eastern European stew is flavoured with hot paprika and sauerkraut; it’s rich and tangy, with just enough gustatory heat to warm your lips. Enjoy on a blustery winter’s evening instead of turning up the radiator. This Polish dish of Hungarian extraction is not usually so spicy, but I find the heat turns a tasty dish into an exciting one. Accompany with noodles, a salad of chopped onion, green pepper and cucumber, and hearty black bread.
