Brown coloring for sauces cannot be bought at the supermarket. It is available to cooks in restaurants, and should be made available to homemakers. Until it is, here is how to make it at home.
Boil sugar and water until sugar caramelizes and turns a very dark, burnt brown (sugar loses its sweetness when it is burnt). Add boiling water, oil, and red coloring.
