This is one of the best ways I know to use old bread. There is no exact recipe. One must adjust the quantities to the amount of bread. However, the following formula will give you something to go by. These are very light and end up tasting like fried custard.

Ingredients

  • cups milk
  • 6 slices of bread or 6-inch

Method

  1. Bring milk to a boil. Take from heat. Add the bread and let soak 10 minutes. Mash with a fork and then beat with a whisk. Beat eggs, vanilla, and salt together until light. Add to the bread mixture. Beat. The mixture should have the consistency of pancake batter—a little on the moist side. Adjust thickness with more bread or milk.
