These are basically unformed hamburgers piled between toasted sesame buns and so very messy to eat. Some people might call them tacky. But then tackiness, fortunately, never stopped anything tasting good.

The recipe comes from a young married couple of American born-again Bible-bashers, who lived below us in Oxford. While he took post-graduate classes, she baked cookies – lots of different kinds, from peanut butter to double chocolate. Sometimes there would be brownies, too, or mass
