These are very easy and quick to prepare; they are similar to the many kinds of fritters which in Java are called pergedel and are often served as a side-dish or garnish to the traditional Central Javanese nasi tumpeng. The tofu here can be replaced by fish (bakwan ikan) or prawns/shrimp (bakwan udang).
