This is a lovely crunchy relish, used to garnish bubur ayam, or, for instance, on nasi goreng or nasi rames.
Put the beans in the water and bring this to a rolling boil. Turn off the heat, skim off and discard the froth that comes to the surface, cover the pan and leave the beans to soak for 1 hour.
Now boil the beans again in the same water for 1 hour, by which time the beans should be tender. Then add
