Buntil are ‘bundles’—the English and Javanese words are strangely alike—made of layers of taro leaf and spiced coconut filling. Buntil are very popular in Central Java, but most people would rather buy them ready-made than cook them at home. Their preparation is a tedious business, taking about 4 hours of cooking time, and although they are worth a good deal of effort they should really be made in quantity.
