Curry preparations reached Japan at the end of the nineteenth century and quickly became popular there. Interestingly, curry was introduced not by Indians but by Westerners, probably the British, who brought curry dishes from their Indian colony. Hence, in those early years curry was regarded in Japan as a sophisticated Western dish and was prepared by chefs who had mastered the arts of French and other Western cuisines. Today’s Japanese curry is unrecognizable by lovers of real Indian curr
