Can you imagine an a Merican bar mitzvah spread without delicious chocolate brownies? this version is packed with chocolate. Many of the Marrano (secret) Jews were import-exporters of chocolate from Venezuela and helped to spread chocolate through Europe via Bayonne, Bordeaux and a Msterdam.

Ingredients

  • 300 g/12 oz plain (semisweet) chocolate chunks
  • 175 g/6

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4. Line the base and sides of a 20cm/8in square cake tin (pan) with baking parchment.
  2. Put the plain chocolate in a heatproof bowl with the butter. Melt over a pan of barely simmering water, stirring frequently.
