This batter requires more gluten in the batter (supplied by all-purpose, not cake, flour) so it won’t sag during baking. Bake it in a - to 10-inch cake pan. Use 4 tablespoons (½ stick) unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 8 large eggs, at room temperature, ¾ cup sugar, cups sifted all-purpose flour, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Bake 35 to 40 minutes.
