Reduce the sugar to 2 tablespoons. Add ½ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper to the dry ingredients for the dough. Cook 6 ounces sliced bacon in a medium skillet over medium heat until crisp and browned, about 6 minutes. Drain on paper towels, cool, and chop fine. During the last minute or so of kneading, add the bacon to the dough.
