Heat the milk in a saucepan to just below the boiling point. While heating, lightly beat together the egg yolks, sugar and cornflour in a mixing bowl. Gradually stir in the hot milk and blend well. Strain custard back into the rinsed saucepan and stir over low heat until custard thickens. Do not allow to boil.
