This simple dish can be an appetizer served on small plates or a nice lunch for one person. As always, its success rises and falls on the quality of the ingredients you use, so select them with care. Try to find pears that are fragrant, flavorful, sweet, and just slightly soft to the touch. Abate and Forelle pears are good choices. Otherwise, use the best pears available.
