Nanny’s Fresh Orange Layer Cake

My maternal grandmother lived until she was ninety and was still cooking and baking though into her late eighties before she became ill. This is her recipe for a fresh orange cake she used to make nearly every week. It’s based on a Victoria sponge cake recipe but with fresh orange zest and juice added. The cake is sandwiched together with orange buttercream which is also used to decorate the top. She sometimes made it with fresh lemons, which was just as delicious, but I’ll leave that decis
