The Manhattan has always attracted controversy: should it be dry, sweet or perfect! ‘Straight up’ or ‘on the rocks’? The only answer is to ask for preferences.

Ingredients

  • 30 ml Canadian Club
  • 30 ml Italian vermouth, dry or red

Method

For a Manhattan ‘on the rocks’, fill a whisky tumbler with ice and pour over the Canadian Club, vermouth and bitters.

Place another inverted tumbler over the first and shake twice. Garnish and serve.

For a Manhattan ‘straight up’, fill a mixing glass with ice, pour over all the ingredients and stir for 10 seconds.
