In a saucepan, combine the fruit, lemon juice, and sugar. Simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the fruit becomes juicy and is just tender. The timing will depend on the type of fruit. For example, you’ll likely need to cook berries for only a few minutes, but apples or rhubarb will take longer to soften and release their juices. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool. Serve
