I have called these by their more usual name, but when I was small we knew these as ‘Scrumptious Squares‘. It was at about the time of ‘Chitty Chitty Bangbang’ and I always thought that it was Truly herself who had given them their name!

Ingredients

  • 400 g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon

  1. Make the caramel by putting a sealed can of condensed milk into a saucepan and covering with water. Put a lid on the pan, bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 2 hours (see tips). It will take about 3 hours to cool down, but you can use the caramel before it is completely cool.
