Shepherd’s pie features often on our family menu. We generally eat up the leftovers from the hotel kitchen larder, which usually includes joints of beef, lamb or venison waiting to be made into shepherd’s pie or something similar. Sometimes I put leeks in a creamy sauce on top of shepherd’s pie instead of mashed potatoes or, another alternative as in this recipe, a sort of savoury crumble of oatmeal and grated cheese.
