For those who have family and friends to stay, especially over the Christmas holiday, I can think of no better main course to welcome their arrival. The ham is so delicious served hot, with a wonderful Tomato and Madeira Sauce. And it is endlessly useful afterwards, served thinly sliced with scrambled eggs for breakfast, or with baked potatoes and salads for lunch.
I buy smoked ham, off the bone, which makes carving much easier.
