You can, of course, serve this with any bread or rolls which you happen to have in the freezer, but it is extra delicious with Pinhead Oatmeal and Garlic Bread.
The salad is simplicity itself, and surprisingly filling. Although you can use back bacon, I much prefer to use streaky bacon for this, grilled till crisp.
Pare off the skins of the avocado pears, halve them and flick out the stones. Slice the flesh into slivers and arrange these fan-shaped on top of lettuce leaves on six individual plates. Brush them well with lemon juice to help prevent discolouring. Grill the bacon till crisp, then crumble it and divide it between the six plates. Pour olive oil over each.
