This very simple, very rich cake makes a delicious pudding. I like to serve it with cream, whipped until it holds its shape and flavoured with vanilla, or with the Vanilla Ice Cream. Unlike most cake recipes, where you are told to test when the cake is cooked by whether a skewer stuck in the centre comes out clean, in this one the cake is ready when the skewer comes out with some of the cake sticking to it, as it should be slightly gooey and moist.
