This sumptuous dal always feels like such a treat. It is one of those special dishes where the simplest, humblest ingredients combine to form some kind of heavenly miracle. And the black gram lentils are so very nutritious. Make sure you buy whole lentils and not the split kind. It matters. This is best made with a pressure cooker, but you can cook it in a regular saucepan – it will just take longer.
