In a small saucepan, combine the tomatillos, the onion in eighths, árbol chiles, and garlic with water to cover (about 1 cup/240 ml), bring to a simmer over medium heat, and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and, using a slotted spoon, transfer the vegetables to a blender. Blend for a few seconds, just until you have a smooth purée. Reserve the water in the pan.
