Keep this stick-to-the-ribs bean dish in mind for frigid winter nights. You can keep the soup simple for kids by making it with just vegetables and pasta or make it heartier for adults by adding the beans. The Parmesan adds a world of flavor, so please don’t omit it unless your diet so dictates.

To complete the meal, I serve either Cabbage and Pepper Slaw or Basic Vegetable Salad. When kids are around, I skip the salad and serve dessert instead. We like Sliced Oranges and Vanilla.</
