Cooking rice can be tricky. While I’ve given a precise amount of water, you will have to experiment with your stash of rice to see what the optimum rice-to-water ratio is. Determining factors include whether you’re cooking new crop or old crop rice (it usually says on the bag). New crop rice requires less water than old crop, which is drier. As a general rule, new crop rice uses a one-to-one ratio, while older rice uses 1 cup (200 g) of rice to 1¼ cups (300 ml) of water.
