Roasted buckwheat groats, or kasha as it was known to immigrants from Eastern Europe, has a delicious nutty flavour and makes a great companion to both meat and chicken dishes.

Ingredients

  • 225 g (8 oz) kasha (groats), ready roasted
  • 1 large egg, beaten</

Method

Put the kasha into a large non-stick frying pan and add the beaten egg. Mix well, then cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the kasha looks puffy and dry. Add the boiling stock and the seasonings. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, until the liquid is absorbed.
