This is my favourite Nana recipe – it’s been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My husband nicknamed it ‘Nana’s heroin slice’ because of its addictiveness. On arriving home every year there would be tins of the stuff to go with endless cups of tea we had with her. She made us a double batch once for a climbing trip in the Southern Alps – it fuelled our whole trip and I’m amazed we weren’t diabetic by the time we returned.
