Moussaka is traditionally found in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans, likely having Arab origins. The Greek version is made of three layers: potatoes and/or veggies on the bottom, red meat (preferably lamb) in the middle, and a cream sauce on top. My Mama’s recipe includes potatoes, zucchinis, and eggplants as a base, a combination of three meats as the protein, and an egg custard sauce instead of béchamel. Possibly considered the “national dish” of Greece, moussaka is ideal
