The flavour of split peas is always popular. This soup is best eaten hot or warm, as it tends to thicken when cold. This recipe makes enough for


  • 75 g/3 oz/¾ cup split peas, soaked for 1 hour
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 900 ml/ pints/ cups water
  • 1 tablespoon wheatgerm


    Mix the split peas with the carrot, onion and water, and simmer for 40 minutes. Add the wheatgerm’, cool and then blend to a purée.
