Croutons

Method

Cut slices of bread into half-inch cubes, or into smaller or larger cubes as desired. Dry them in a moderate oven (325° F.); or brush them with butter, oil, or cheese, and toast them in the oven as for croûtes; or sauté them over moderate heat until golden brown.

Bread garnishes can be cut in other shapes, tiny rounds, triangles, crescents, etc. These little crusts can be prepared in the same way as the cubes.
