This chilled somen noodle was a favourite at our home – I remember my father getting through a fair few bowls of this on exceedingly hot summer days in São Paulo. In Japan, a similar dish known as zaru soba is enjoyed throughout the hot months, although that dish uses buckwheat noodles.
