If ever there was a chocolate dessert that typifies comfort food, this is it. Vittorina Seghesio blithely calls it an old-fashioned homemade dessert. I call it sublime and unforgettable.
Vittorina is so practiced and professional that she makes her caramel using only sugar. Emulate her if you have the skill; otherwise use some water to caramelize the sugar.
