Better known as number 42 (or 17, or 91), this would have to be the world’s most boring, safe, unadventurous, and uneventful Chinese order ever. Yet somewhere beyond the gluggy cornflour sauce, the tired, limp vegetables and that back-of-the-tongue thwack of MSG is something pure, noble, and downright nice that deserves reclaiming.
