The name "Dak Bungalow Chicken Curry" originated from the dak bungalows, or rest houses, that were established during the British colonial era in India. Dak means "post" in Hindi language. These rest houses were in remote areas along postal routes that facilitated postal services and provided lodging and food to officials travelling for work, as well as other travellers who paid for cheap accommodation and basic food.
