Avocado toast doesn’t have to be boring. We like to jazz up ours with nutty toasted pumpkin seeds and plenty of chili crisp drizzled over the top. Be sure to choose ripe but still slightly firm avocados and a sturdy, dense artisanal bread. For a heartier dish, top each serving of toast with a fried or poached egg.
Toast the bread in a toaster, a toaster oven, or under the broiler. Spread one side of each slice lightly with butter.
Fan out an avocado half on the buttered side of each toasted slice. Using a fork, gently smash the avocado into the toast. Season with salt and pepper. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of the chili crisp over each smashed avocado half and then sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of the pepi
