First, make your dashi (or buy instant dashi at a Japanese supermarket). Then, a beautiful, simple, aesthetically pleasing Japanese meal is only minutes away.

Ingredients

  • 1 litre (1ΒΎ pints) water
  • 25 g (1 oz) konbu seaweed
  • 25 g (1 oz) bonito flakes

Method

Add konbu to cold water in saucepan and slowly heat the water. Remove konbu just before the water reaches boiling point. Add bonito flakes, remove from the heat as soon as the water boils, and strain.
