Mississippi Chess Pie

Chess pies are a classic dessert of the American South, though they have nothing to do with the board game that goes by the same name. Chess may be a corruption of ‘cheese’, since in the distant past, any kind of a mixture that jelled or coagulated was considered a type of cheese.
