The origins of ice desserts can be traced back to many of the most prominent historical figures of the ancient world. While many people had presumably eaten frozen treats prior to him, Alexander the Great is the first documented person to eat a mixture of snow, fruit, wine, and honey in 336 BCE. In his 77 AD work the Naturalis Historia, the great historian, Pliny the Elder, makes mention of the eccentric Roman emperor Nero ordering his troops to collect large quantities of snow for t
