The small town of Montélimar in the Provence region of France has been producing some of the finest nougat in the world for centuries. The tradition began when Olivier de Serre first planted almond trees in the hills of Montélimar in the 17th century. The French claim that while similar preparations using walnuts existed previously, the people of Montélimar were the first to incorporate almonds, creating nougat in its modern form. Today, Montélimar nougat is largely considered the finest in
