In the early 1900s, the Tatin sisters, Stéphanie and Caroline, ran a hunting lodge and restaurant in the French region of Solonge. The story goes that in a hurry, one of the sisters accidentally baked an apple tart with the pastry base facing up and the apple garnish facing down.
