The dobos sponge cake is a delicious and delicately layered cake covered with an ornate caramel topping. The cake was created by the famed Hungarian chef József Dobos in 1884. The cake was unveiled at the National General Exhibition of Budapest in 1885 where it was presented to the Emperor and Empress of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Franz Joseph I and Elizabeth of Bavaria.
