  • About

This well-known and very popular English tart was created by chance by a female cook working in a hotel in the town of Bakewell, Derbyshire. The cook was making a flan using leftover pastry trimmings, which she then covered with jam. There were also extra eggs, sugar, almonds and butter. The cook mixed these all together, filled the flan and baked it - and the Bakewell Tart was born.
