Lemon Meringue Pie

This recipe is a tribute to my sister Liz. Back in the 1980s, when my mom dragged me to the mall with my sisters, we would ask for a treat from the bakery. It might really have been only one time, but I seem to remember Liz always choosing lemon meringue pie. How we marveled at its height and airiness! I don’t even know if I had any idea what the pie was made of. It was just beautiful—and really, really sweet.
