I fell in love with Brennivín the moment I first tried it in Iceland in 2016. Caraway and many other spices and herbs compose the complex flavor of the schnapps, a traditional spirit type for Scandinavia, with the generic name “aquavit” reminiscent of medieval alchemy’s aqua vitae as well as the origin of the root word for whiskey. With that kind of lore, I’ve matched this aquavit spirit with other typically spiritual ingredients from holy basil to Palo Santo and angelica served with a dram
