This Indo-Chinese-inspired soup gets its warmth from the combination of aromatics and the addition of cumin, which offers earthy undertones. It comes together in a cinch and can easily become a heartier meal by adding diced firm tofu or noodles. I prefer a higher veg-to-broth ratio when it comes to brothy soups like this, but feel free to add more broth if you like.
