This quick and easy dessert makes great use of an abundance of fresh fruit (plums, nectarines, peaches, apples). In a pinch, it can also be made with canned or frozen fruit. Years ago, these fruit-based cakes were tied to the seasons, with plums being an early fall fruit. But today, when plums are grown all over the world and easily available to most of us on a year-round basis, we are no longer restricted to selected ingredients at specific times of the year.
