Baba with Raisins

It is quite possible that 400 years ago this cake could have been named after someone’s grandmother since that is what the words “baba” and “babka” mean. When it comes out of a fluted tube pan, its sides may resemble the shape of grandmother’s pleated skirt. Traditionally, a Baba is tall, round, rustic, and may be prepared in several varieties. It is quite a simple cake, even with the golden raisins or other dried fruit mixed into the delicate, yeast-risen dough. This version, often
