Wipe the onions with a damp cloth but do not peel. Put them in a baking pan in which they fit snugly. Cook in an oven preheated to 350°F (180°C) for about 30 minutes, or more if they are large.
Let the onions cool, peel them, and cut them into wedges. Toss with the oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper and serve.
