Horseshoe, or crescent, shapes are used for a number of cookie recipes, and they add variety to the more common round selections. They are easy to pipe out, as is done with Strassburger Cookies, or to form by hand, as here and in the recipe for Butter Crescents. All of these look especially nice when the open ends are dipped into chocolate. In this recipe, a semisweet or even bittersweet chocolate tastes best in contrast with the sweet almond flavor.
